Restoration: Rear fender, process test
Restoration: Rear fender, process test
To test the entire process we have chosen the left rear fender.
First the fender was used to test the blasting techniques, a combination of dry-ice blasting and plastic media blasting, leaving the sheet metal surface virtually untouched.

Then the Sheet metal Doctor, Mr. Olvenmo started examining the fender closely, deciding to disassemble the entire part in order to correct all deformations and remove hidden corrosion.

When all parts where perfect the connecting surfaces were coated in a protecting paint before reassembly.

The parts where then carefully assembled to ones again form a complete fender.

To finish the test the part was sent to the painter to test the surface finishing. We are aiming to match the Citroën “prestige paint” finish of the period, we think it is appropriate since the car is black and since it started its life as an executive company car of the director of Citroën in Sweden.

Here the finished fender mounted on another DS, to get a realistic viewing angle of the result.

The result is stunning to say the least!
(This part will be repainted together with the rest of the body panels when that time comes.)
